Abstract

During Operation Desert Storm (1991), 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment had a remarkable role. In this context, this article analyzes the actions conducted by Eagle Troop, commanded by Captain H.R. McMaster. As a result of the analysis, it is proposed as a thesis that the high offensive capabilities allowed the accomplishment of its mission. The previous, based on a high combat power and in the proper application of mobile combat characteristics. Finally, conclusions are presented regarding the advantages provided to the land force by having reconnaissance units with high offensive capabilities, which allow reducing uncertainty, as well as achieving and maintaining the initiative.
